We started our state wide network to help people get the right workers’ compensation lawyer for their unique case. I care about the people who call me and if I recommend that you call another firm in our network, those will be attorneys who will care about your case too.
I occasionally get calls from people who think that the insurance company or adjuster is out to get them. I assure them that is not the case because unless you swear at the adjuster or do something that is memorable in a bad way, to them you are just a case number. That sounds really cold, but it’s the truth. Insurance companies are solely in this for the money and when it seems like they are trying to screw you over or out to get you, to them it’s just business. Even if it’s cruel how they are acting or against the law, it’s almost never personal. They don’t hate you, they are just indifferent.
Some lawyers get indifferent about their clients. I’ve vowed never to be that way and if I felt that anyone in our network was that way I’d kick them out. Once you stop viewing a client as a person and just look at them as a file then it’s hard to give the best representation possible.
I thought of this after a downstate lawyer who I highly recommend passed on a note from our mutual client. The client was hurt in Illinois so fortunately we were able to help him pursue Illinois workers’ compensation benefits. He lived in Indiana which is a terrible state for workers.
Because the doctors were in Indiana, my colleague to go to a deposition in southern Indiana as the case was highly disputed. After that was a hearing in Mount Vernon and it ended up being a successful result. The attorney and his staff got to know the family well. Their staff places a value on knowing the clients because you are a human, not a case number. We get that it feels as if your life is on the line when you have a serious work injury, especially if the case is being fought by an insurance company that acts rude and callous.
The client sent the following note which doesn’t seem like much, but really means the world.
I just want to tell you thank you for all the help and support you have given us. Without you there would not have been any chance of compensation.
We don’t expect anything from our clients except honesty and communication. We get paid to do our job. But every time that a kind word or note comes in like this it simply helps re-enforce that our clients are people whose lives have been turned upside down. Almost everyone I’ve ever talked to just wants to be healthy and back to work.
So what I’m saying, in a rambling way, is that it’s a pleasure to get calls and e-mails from people who just have questions or need representation. We can’t help everyone, but we try our best to do so. If we ever start looking you as nothing more than a case number we’ll walk away. It’s an honor to help anyone who we can. If you’d like our help, fill out the contact form to the right or call us at (312) 346-5578.
